WHAT IS FIRST FRIDAY?

It’s come to our attention that many folks, especially in our beautiful small town, have never heard of First Friday before - so I thought I’d share some info!

New to Elkader, but common across the country, First Friday is a night that encourages art galleries, studios, (and in our town any businesses who want to participate) to stay open late on the First Friday of the month. This is a time to meet the artists, view new artwork on display, enjoy refreshments and even hear the occasional live music and poetry readings!

This is our first full season participating in First Friday at The Collective and Sharp Art Galleries in Elkader and we would love it if you could help us spread the word!

First Friday Art Crawl
The First Friday of every month May - Nov
5 to 7 pm

WHO IS IT?

Any local business or artist who wants to participate. If you are a local business, artist, gallery, restaurant, establishment, - etc, who’d like to be part of First Friday please join us! Promote yourself/business with specials, new artwork, refreshments if you choose, and have your doors open the First Friday of the Month until 7 pm. —— And encourage shoppers to visit the other participating businesses during their First Friday adventure.

WHY VISIT FIRST FRIDAY?

Every month you’ll see something new, learn something new, try something new… it’s about experiencing new art and meeting the artists themselves. You get to hear the story behind the work, learn from the artist in person. It’s about getting out of the house for a date night, family night, or friend night. It’s about enjoying an artistic experience in our small town and having fun! It’s also another way to encourage tourism and promote the arts in northeast Iowa!

A RECAP FROM: FIRST FRIDAY IN JULY

On Friday, July 2, 2021,  THE COLLECTIVE featured guest artist Alexis Schramel, an emerging abstract painter originally from Guttenberg, Iowa, along with several new artworks by member artists. Alexis’s artwork will be for sale on display throughout the month of July!

SHARP ART GALLERY welcomed guest artist David Prehm during First Friday and will feature his award winning paintings throughout the month of July.
