New Release - Works on Paper 2020
For the past few months I’ve been working on a series of paintings on paper and I’ve loved every minute of it.
It’s been busy. It’s been freeing. It’s kept me sane.
It’s felt so rewarding to work on these pieces. To let go and escape into the paint and forget about the worries of the world. When I paint it’s “me time.” I get to unwind, focus, listen to music, sing… yep, sometimes I even sing when I paint! And then, there are times I struggle, too.
Some days the pieces turnout moody, dark, with spots of light. Other days the work feels light and cheerful. No matter what, no two are identical and that’s part of what makes each one so beautiful, so real. The variety of marks, colors, textures.. it’s what gives these pieces their intrigue.
From small 4x4 inch pieces to 18x24 inch pieces, they each hold a space in my heart.
This body of work shows how I’ve physically worked through the many emotions that I’ve been living with over the past couple of months. Looking at this collection all together, I feel like I’m looking through a journal.
The funny thing is, whether it was during covid or any other span of time, my work will always showcase light days and moody days, the good and bad, the tough and the effortless… it’s life.
Do any of the pieces feel like they’d be in your emotional diary?
Seek the sunny spots and savor the light…
