Why I sign my work JWebb
/Growing up with Webb as a middle name was something I learned to embrace as a child. It wasn't like any of my friends' middle names. It was different.
I grew into it.
I grew into the person who appreciates uniqueness, believes in acceptance, embraces imperfection and values connection.
It wasn't long before I began signing my artwork, JWebb. I did it for aesthetics and to embrace my personal growth. I did it to honor my parents, who gave me my grandmother's maiden name, and to honor my history.
After I started signing my work JWebb, I remember visiting my precious grandmother and telling her about my new artistic signature. In a fleeting moment of clarity, one of those rare momentary breaks from her battle with dementia, I remember seeing her eyes sparkle and her short joyful response. I remember it like yesterday.
I knew then, I would always sign my work JWebb.
I'm so grateful for the time I had with my grandparents. It's been 10 years today since we lost them both, just nine days apart. Their love story, life, and example will forever live in my memories and heart.
